Our Approach
Our approach for care is focused on making sure the best interests of the individual as well as the family are addressed. Our goal is to become your trusted partner. We conduct multiple pre-admission interviews with the physician, health proxy and family members to identify the critical factors to assure long-term placement success for you or your loved one.
Even as our faculties diminish with age or dramatic changes occur in our lives, being engaged in life is paramount to thriving in our latter years. Activities and interaction,
We recognize that residents will have preferences and levels of functions and try to offer a range of events and programs that offer different levels of activity and interaction that enrich their lives. All programs are FREE unless otherwise indicated.
Caregivers
The Elysian Gardens standard of excellence places a great deal of importance on surpassing the industry standard of full-time caregiver and Practical Nurse to resident ratio. The peace of mind brought about by assuring oversight by meticulously hired and professionally trained caregivers and nursing professionals is priceless to all those invested in the safety, comfort, and welfare of our residents. With compassionate support and a strong service driven mentality, our team works cooperatively to develop a comprehensive plan for you or your loved one. We collaborate with the residents, their families, 3rd party caregivers and doctors to come up with solutions to challenges and creating a shared awareness for the well-being of those we serve.
Services
We specialize in Alzheimer’s and Dementia care for residents in our community. We ensure our staff is adequately trained for the special needs of our memory care residents.
The basic activities of daily living (ADL’s) are done in assisted living communities. Staff will assist with these ADL’s such as bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, ambulating, eating and assisting with a resident’s medication(s). Residents of assisted living need not be concerned with daily meal preparation, because a central kitchen and dining room typically provide three (3) meals a day and snacks. Central dining also allows for visiting with others without having to leave home. This greatly reduces the isolation that many elderly and disabled may encounter while living alone and who are afraid (usually for physical reasons) to leave their home.
The residence may assist in arranging the appropriate medical, health, dental, vision, hearing services through 3rd party medical providers. They may also assist in arranging outside medical appointments for each resident. The resident generally chooses his or her medical doctors and other health care providers. However, many assisted living residences may have third party medical vendors provide services on-site creating a convenience for the resident and family member, as well as creating a continuity of care for the resident.
Residents who have periods of temporary incapacity due to illness, injury, or recuperation from surgery are often allowed to return and remain in the assisted living residence. On occasion, they may have temporary stays in hospitals, rehabilitation centers or short term skilled nursing facilities in order to recuperate before returning to the assisted living residence. It is important to remember that assisted living residences are a “bridge” between living at home and living in a nursing home. Assisted living residences do not typically provide the level of continuous skilled nursing care found in nursing homes and hospitals.

Demographics
A typical assisted living resident would be a senior male or female who does not need intensive medical care that a nursing home provides, but needs companionship and some assistance with day-to-day living. Age groups vary with every residence. The most important issue to acknowledge is that assisted living residences are a communal living form. The residents will range in nationality, cultural, religion, age, sex, political association, socio-economic backgrounds, etc.
The Assisted Living Federation of America reports that the average age of an assisted living resident is 86.9 years (female average age 87.3; male average age 85.7). Female residents (73.6%) outnumber male residents by almost 3 to 1. The majority (76.6) of assisted living residents are widowed, and just over 12% are still married or have a significant other. The median length of stay for assisted living residents is 21 months.
Dancing
Music has the ability to transcend time! Dancing is as popular as it ever was in senior communities as there’s arguably no better way to lift the spirits and keep the body fit. Our assisted living residents are encouraged to dance daily as we host regular dances and even some sessions of line dancing, swing dancing, and ball room dancing.
Exercise
Part of our core philosophy is healthy body, healthy mind. For our active seniors, we encourage fitness as a lifestyle instead of a fad. Residents have lots of conventional and non-conventional fitness programs to take part in such as aerobics, gardening and walking, chair yoga, and tai chi.
